In today’s day and age technology has become more than just a luxury. Technology, in all of its forms, has found its way into the classroom. Teachers and students use technology because it has become so integrated into our day-to-day living. Students and educators are adjusting educational practices and improving them by technological skills both in and out of the classroom.
ISTE helps foster meaningful and lasting connections between students, teachers, and technology. One of standards I really appreciated was the Global Collaboration standard for students. I think it is increasingly important for students to experience and explore more of the world. However, making an effort to collaborate with students and teachers by connecting through technology is an opportunity of a lifetime. It seems a little out of my scope because though I use technology daily, I do not spend a lot of time focusing on a global perspective— I definitely did not genuinely have that opportunity in the classroom until sometime towards the end of high school.
I am a digital native, meaning I was born and raised in the age where digital technology began to take off. Using many forms of technology and adapting to new/upcoming technology comes like second nature for me and many my age. Normally older people in my mothers generation and beyond have a harder time adjusting to new technologies. There are times when students my age know more about the classroom’s technology resources than the teachers of the course. I believe teachers that employ digital and online technology skills and resources in any classroom tend to have the most exciting and natural feeling courses. I believe the use of tech in our schools will continue to increase and hopefully disperse more evenly to communities.
